Another weekend’s coming close in Barcelona. Things are starting to heat up and we’re getting more and more motivated to go and sit out on a terrace and enjoy the sun and good weather. Friday, May 11th
BARCELONA POESIA 2012 – It’s spring, and we already know that during this period there’s something in the air. Here, verses and poems take over the city of Barcelona. More than 100 authors will participate in this festival, which includes recitals, shows, concerts, conferences, children’s activities and competitions. Where: different areas of Barcelona. When: until the 17th of May. How much: free and paid activities.

FIRA SANT PONÇ – Sant Ponç was the patron saint of herbalists and apothecaries, meaning that flowers, aromatic herbs, honey and traditional sweets will be the protagonists of this fair. There’ll also be traditional dances, handicrafts and other activities. Where: C/Hospital. When: from 9am to 9pm. How much: free.

BCN SPORTS FILM – An unmissable date for sport and cinema lovers. A total of 70 multi-disciplinary sports films, documentaries and shorts will be showed. Where: Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport (Av. Estadi, 60) and Sala Cultural El Corte Inglés (Av. Portal de l'Àngel, 19-21). When: until the 12th of May. How much: free.

FESTIVAL PLAÇA ODISSEA – Free music in the open air, next to the sea, in order to enjoy the good weather. In this edition, you’ll see bands like Maxïmo Park, Klaus & Kinski, Antònia Font, Manos de Topo and FM Belfast, among other. Where: Pl. Odissea, 2 (C.C. Maremàgnum). When: from the 10th to 12th of May. How much: free.

Saturday, May 12th
DÍA DEL COMIC GRATIS ESPAÑOL- The Day of the Free Spanish Comic is designed to promote and pay tribute to comics. If you can manage to get to one of the participating shops, you can take home free one of the eight comics which have been edited specially for the occasion. It’s that easy. Where: Cosmic (C/ Castillejos 272), Newton (C/ Riera Alta 8), Totcomic (C/ Jocs Florals 106), Universal Cómics (Ronda Sant Antoni 9). When: all day. How much: free.

BARNA CLICK 2012 – The Playmobile figurine collectors’ fair is back the Barcelona, with some incredible models and scenes populated by these popular dolls. There’ll also be competitions and stands. Enjoy like a child! Where: Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Ramón Trias Fargas, 25-27). When: Saturday 12th May from 10am to 8pm; Sunday 13th May from 10am to7pm. How much: entrance 3€; under twelves go free.

FESTIVAL NEO – This year, the Festival of Creation and Innovation in Theatre Arts and New Media offers us more than twenty surprising performances for all types of audience. Where: Teatre Lliure, el Mercat de les Flors, Institut del Teatre and La Seca. When: from the 9th to the 13th of May. How much: 10€. Discounts and some free spectacles are also on offer.

LUX AETERNA – Mediaeval, ethereal, folk and pagan music to enjoy a different kind of evening. With live performances, DJs, raffles and handicrafts stalls. Where: Undead Dark Club (C/ Violant d’Hongria, 128). When: from 12.30am. How much: entrance + free mixer or 2 beers 11€.

Sunday, May 13th

GP DE ESPAÑA F1 – Get the engines roaring! Formula 1 has arrived to the Circuit of Catalonia as part of the Spanish Grand Prix, in one of the highlights of the season where the teams will be trying out new improvements. Where: Circuito de Cataluña (Montmeló). When: from the 11th to the 13th of May. The Grand Prix race will be on the Sunday at 2pm. How much: from 40 to 450€.

STAR WARS PARADE – The district of La Sagrera will be celebrating its Spring Festival this weekend. Among other things, the first-ever Star Wards Parade in Catalonia will be organised. All fans of the saga are invited to follow to the beat of the imperial march. Where: Jardins d’Elx. When: 11.30am. How much: free. Complete festival programme in PDF here.

BCCN FILM FESTIVAL – The Barcelona Creative Commons Film Festival, whose philosophy involves, above all, sharing, will celebrate its third edition and is also going global. This year it will also be celebrated in cities like Madrid, Buenos Aires and Helsinki. Fictional films, documentaries and national and international shorts. Where: MACBA (Pl. dels Àngels, 1). When: from the 10th to 13th of May. How much: free.
