Things to do this weekend in Barcelona


Friday at last! And here we are with our list of suggestions for enjoying the weekend in Barcelona to the fullest. Barcelona enjoys a bank holiday on Tuesday (and, for some, Monday as well), but don’t worry – as ever, there’s still a wide variety of activities on offer. The next few days feature enough concerts, parties and other leisure pursuits to keep you busy all weekend.


Friday, 27th of April
Feria de Abril Barcelona 2012

FERIA DE ABRIL – Although the April fair in Seville has been bringing a smile to the Andalusian capital for several days now, it’s only today that the typical Sevillana dances have finally come to Barcelona. Tapas, Iberia ham, fine wine, dancing, music, live shows and a lot of party spirit will be shared out between a total of 68 free-entry marquees. Olé! Where: Parc del Fòrum (Pl. Fòrum, 1). When: From the 27th April to the 6th May. How much: free entry.

50% OFF THEATRE – You’ve still got time! Until Sunday, in honour of the Sant Jordi (St. George)’s celebrations, tickets for numerous theatre performances in Barcelona can be obtained at half price. Where and when: tickets can be bought in the Palacio de la Virreina (La Rambla, 99) until the 28th April, from 10am to 8pm, or via Telentrada. How much: from 7€ to 14€, depending on the show.

PHILIP GLASS ENSEMBLE– The 13th Festival of the Millennium is coming to its final stretch, and bringing some memorable concerts with it. On Friday, it’s the American composer Philip Glass’ turn, who will put on a new edition of his famous opera “Einstein on the Beach”. Where: Palau de la Música (Palau de la música, 2). When: 9pm. How much: 18 – 54€.

Saturday, 28th of April

D’A – The International Independent Film Festival is celebrating its second edition, with more than 60 artistic films that would struggle to make it to our screens otherwise. Expect a lavish programme with national and international titles and a retrospective dedicated to Claire Denis. Where: Aribau Club (Gran Vía, 565-567) and the Filmoteca de Catalunya (Pl. Salvador Seguí, 1-9). When: from the 27th of April to the 6th of May. How much: general entry 7€, multiple 5 ticket pass 25€. Language: all Films are projected in original languages with Spanish or Catalan subtitles.

 

SAGRADA FAMILIA FIESTA MAYOR – During the coming days, the Sagrada Familia district is getting ready to celebrate its annual street festival. A variety of activities will get the streets buzzing: workshops, kids’ activities, human pyramids, dances, traditional parades, fireworks, expositions, concerts… Here you can check out a PDF of the programme. Where: District of the Sagrada Familia. When: from the 27th of April to the 6th of May. How much: free.

NIÑOS MUTANTES – This nineties band from Granada returns to Barcelona to present their latest work: “Náufragos” (“castaways”), a solid disk full of the know-how that characterises this group and reasserts it as on of the big players in the Spanish indie scene. Where: Room 2, Apolo (C/Nou de la Rambla, 111). When: 9.30pm. How much: 12€ in advance, 15€ on the door.



Sunday, 29th of April
MIBA-inventos-TBODIA DE LA DANZA – To celebrate International Dance Day, giant group action open to all those who wish to participate has been organised. To participate, you just have to learn the steps, wear white and send an email to projectes@dansacat.org. And to put back on the calories you’ve just lost, after the dance
