Yes, the Cirque du Soleil in Buenos Aires has almost arrived, with its usual (or should that be “highly unusual”?) selection of body-popping, jaw-dropping circus acts. More circus feat than circus freak, the Cirque du Soleil is an artistic contemporary circus act that draws in its crowds through the sterling quality of its choreography and performers.

This September 2012 won’t be the first time we’ve seen the Cirque du Soleil in Buenos Aires, but it will be the first time we see them perform their new spectacle in South America. Varekai tells the story of an enchanted wood, and holds with it all the spellbinding promise of talented performers drawn together by flawless composition.

The 2012 Cirque du Soleil performance in Buenos Aires will be divided into thirteen different acts, each of which allows you to experience some of the best performances worldwide in disciplines such as Georgian Dance, the Aerial Hoop and that classic of the circus arts, the Trapeze. It also uses more up-to-date sequences, such as the Shannon Technique, which explores the use of crutches as a prop (indeed, Bill Shannon is one of the choreographers who worked on the piece).

In fact, one of the most striking features of the Cirque du Soleil is its ability to make the circus arts relevant to today’s world. Although fantasy themes of enchanted woods may seem a far cry from reality, the lack of clumsy props and animal acts mean the performance is seamless, modern and thoroughly watchable. Founder Guy Laliberté is now a well established artist, and after the success of European events such as Varekai in Barcelona, Corteo and Zarkana in Madrid and Totem in London, the show is sure not to disappoint. Ticket prices, however, may draw a few ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ from the crowd.
