Kayaking in the Costa Brava
The Costa Brava
is about much more than lying on a beach
and sunning yourself. Its deep crystal blue waters are the ideal place to experiment with new sensations and inject some energy into your holiday. The watersports
you can try in the Costa Brava
include scuba diving, sailboating, windsurfing, jet-skiing and kayaking.
Kayaking is one of the most accessible aquatic sports. It’s not too expensive, and as a leisure activity doesn’t require you to be in excellent physical form. Although you might have spent all year sitting down in front of the computer or lying on the sofa, you should be good to sail a kayak and have fun while you feel the sea breeze in your face.
The word kayak comes from the Inuit and means “man-boat”, given that kayaks are typically just for one person (although if you fancy rowing with friends or partners, you can also find canoes which fit two people). Since they were used by Eskimos for hunting, these narrow canoes have evolved greatly, and now there’s a variety of models which are easy to sail.
Sea kayaking is the most adventurous version of this sport. In the Costa Brava, you can manoeuvre your kayak through caves, rocks, coves and other attractive landscapes knitted from sea green. There are various sailing schools and centres where you can rent kayaks in the Costa Brava. Here’s a few of our favourites...
