Have the Best Christmas in Granada

Christmas in Granada

Christmas Markets in GranadaWe all know that Christmas is the best time of year, not only for the long family holidays that we can enjoy, but also the enormous quantity of food that we allow ourselves to eat, not to mention the highly alcoholic drinks, for those at the permitted age of course. However, another reason to be particularly excited about this holiday season is none other than that it is a good excuse to go on a little getaway with your partner, with your family or friends. Therefore, for us Granada is an ideal destination to spend a few days over the festive season whether it’s on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, or during King’s Day (The Epiphany) as the atmosphere in the city of the Alhambra is perfect for visitors coming to enjoy Christmas.

Christmas Market on Bib-Rambla

Nativity Scene in GranadaA classic is the  Christmas market located in the central square of Bib-Rambla, just around the corner from the Renaissance Cathedral.  Artisanal products of all kinds ranging from food, clothes, local hand-made decorations, and an endless array of articles are on sale and make a perfect Christmas gift. In the same square you can try the best churros and chocolate in the city, a truly delicious traet to warm you up. The  nativity scene is also on dispaly in the centre of the plaza, a touch of tradition during Christmas in Granada.

Churros and Skiing in the Sierra Nevada

Navidad Sierra Nevada GranadaWhen the New Year has arrived, join the locals in the streets celebrating in the  in the bars and clubs. And although you will have had a heavy meal and you’re feeling fit to pop, the truth is that after a long night out hunger will take over tired bodies and therefore, a classicduring Christmas in Granada is eat some churros in the Cafeteria del Fútbol, situated on Plaza Mariana Pineda, which is the only one that is open at these hours to the delight of young party-goers (and for those young at heart of course). Finally, although you don’t feel like doing anything  following a heavy night of festivities, there is nothing better than climbing the Sierra Nevada on New Year's Day. Only 30 minutes away by car or bus perfect for a bit of  skiing, although it seems impossible to do it is well worth making the effort.

Kings Parade in Granada

Cabalgata Reyes Magos en GranadaWe couldn’t of course leave out the classic Kings’ Parade that is celebrated every year and that makes it way through all the main avenues in Granada on the 5th of January. Entire families gather along the streets to contemplate the most entertaining figures and to collect  some of the sweets and presents that the kings generously throw from their floats. Another Christmas classic and accessible to all within the city of the most famous red monument on the planet is our beloved Alhambra.
