Musical concert in Madrid this 2010
Last Sunday, London paid a well-deserved tribute to the most long-standing musical “Les Miserables” that will have been showing for 25 years very soon. Thus, the O2 Arena in the British Capital has organised a double and commemorative concert session that filled up to the hilts, something that is really difficult to achieve given that we are referring to a one of the largest in-door stadiums in the United Kingdom. More than 300 actors and musicians took part in the 25th anniversary celebration of this theatrical piece written by Alain Boublil, and inspired by the Victor Hugo’s novel bearing the same name.
“Les Miserables” dubbed by experts in this field as “the musical of all musicales” is set in XIX Century Paris and tells the story of Jean Valjean, a delinquent of little consequence that is prepared to put his criminal life behind him.
This theatrical work that has been seen by more than 57 million spectators since its first showing, in 42 different countries, and in 21 different languages, was written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, with music composed by Schönberg himself. The first showing originally took place in the Barbican in London on the 8th of October, 1985, and then the show later moved on to the Palace theatre and then the Queen, where the auditoriums continue to fill up on a daily basis today.
The show will be now making its way to Broadway in New York, although it will be making a stop in Madrid prior to their visit to the United States. On the 18th of November the Lope de Vega theatre will be receiving the new Spanish cast of “Les Miserables” led by Daniel Diges, Ignasi Vidal, Virginia Carmona and Gerónimo Rauch from Argentina who participated in the huge London concert last Sunday.
This new revised version of “Les Miserables” in Spanish will be showing in the Lope de Vega theatre all the way through until the summer, and promises to be a success with an excellent cast according to the producer himself of the production. In fact, Gerónimo Rauch, the lead Spanish actor was selected amongst all the other candidates to participate in the Spanish version of this anniversary celebration in the London O2 Arena.
This is a once in a life time opportunity to see this classic converted into a musical with a cast of top-quality young actors, in a show suitable for all tastes.
