Currach Regatta and St. Patrick’s Day Party in Barcelona this 2012
St. Patrick’s Day is approaching… and if you love Celtic culture, you will find plenty of good places in Barcelona to celebrate this special day. One of the most interesting and original proposals is the currach regatta to be held on Sunday the 18th of March.
Currachs are traditional rowing boats, typical of Western Ireland. For over a hundred of years they have been hand built by craftsmen. Its simple, lightweight and versatile design has helped to overcome the harsh weather conditions and the wild waters of the Atlantic Ocean for centuries. In the past few years, many people from around the have shown keen interest in learning how to build as well as sail these typical Irish boats.
Since 2009, the cultural association Iomramh organizes an annual currach regatta in Barcelona and this year is sponsored by Friendly Rentals. This is an ideal opportunity to have fun, learn a bit more about Irish culture and of course enjoy the perfect spring climate that has been forecast.
After the competition, the party will continue in the Reial Club Maritim with the awards ceremony, live Irish music, dancing, traditional burgers, cheddar cheese, beer and much more.
Furthermore, many of the Friendly Rentals team will be supporting this great Irish Event and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a picnic. So if you want to meet us or just come around to say “hello” during this weekend, you know where to find us! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
