Slowly, like a whisper which slides out across time, the time of the year when the nights shine the brightest and the air is full of the smell of cinammon is almost upon us. Loved by many and hated by others, Christmas is a very special time of year to visit Salamanca.
To ring in these celebrations, the old Castilian city is adorned with red carpets and ornamental lights. During the evening the coloured lights play a central role. The Christmas lights in Salamanca will shine brightly through the Christmas period. During the festive season there’ll be a host of things to do in the city as well as seeing its most famous tourist sights.

Navidades en Palacio – Magic, music, humour at the Palacio de Congresos this Christmas in Salamanca. Especially for the children is the musical "Hansel and Gretel" on the 28th of December followed by the "Cohete Musical" on the 2nd of January hosted by Juan D and Beatriz with help from Los Lunnis. On the 3rd of January magician Jorge Blass will take to the stage to wow the audience with his special brand of magic. Where: Palacio de Congresos. ARTISAN’S CHRISTMAS MARKET – Christmas markets always have a special charm. In this one, as well as buying some last-minute presents or typical seasonal produce, you can enjoy a Christmas show of artisan’s trades. Where: Plaza de los Bandos. When: from the 5th of December 2013 to the 5th of January 2013. How much: free. Age: all ages.
SAN SILVESTRE SALMANTINA – And to loose a few of the pounds you’ve gained during mass biscuit, chocolate and liquor consumption, nothing could be healthier than going out for a race. The San Silvestre is a Christmas classic in Salamanca. Where: San Francisco Park (Pº. de San Vincente, 1). When: from the 29th of December at 11.30 am to 12.30 pm. How much: from €2 to €8. Children’s Christmas activities in Salamanca 2013
ES TIEMPO DE NAVIDAD– Civic Centres Miraltormes, Vistahermosa and Unamuno will offer free children’s activities and workshops for children betwen the ages of 3 and 10. The activities are all based around Christmas, with the added bonus of giving parents a valuable opportuity to get in some last minute Christmas shopping. A rock climbing wall will also be installed at the Vistahermosa centre during the Christmas period. Where Civic Centres- Miraltormes, Vistahermosa and Unamona. How much: Free. Age: 3-10 years.
KINGS DAY PARADE – A massive fireworks display will greet the arrival of the Three Wise Men in Salamanca. Aboard highly adorned floats they will make their way through the streets of Salamanca handing out sweets to all the children and collecting their letters.
