Markets in Amsterdam
There are several markets in Amsterdam which are worth a visit. Here, we provide some practical information about the markets and their opening hours.
The Albert Cuyp Market
The Albert Cuyp market is the largest in all of Amsterdam and a great venue for a day out. Situated right in the heart of the De Pijp quarter, which dates back to the 19th century, it comprises over 260 stands selling everything and anything.
As well as more traditional market fare such as fish and groceries, you can also buy clothes, and even more offbeat products like cameras here. Selling products from the West Indies, Suriname and even Turkey and Morocco, the market reflects Amsterdam’s culturally diverse feel.
When: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
The Flower Market (Bloemenmarkt)
Probably the best-known flower market in Holland and perhaps, indeed, in Europe, the floating flower market celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. You can also find typical Dutch souvenirs here.
When: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm, Sunday 11am to 5.30pm.
The Waterlooplein flea market
This market is living proof that “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. A paradise for bargain-hunters, this market features all kinds of bric-a-brac you can imagine. Keep looking, and you’ll strike gold (or will you?).
When: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
The Dapper market (Dappermarkt)
A truly diverse market with about 200 stands, which sells all types of national and international foodstuffs, clothing and flowers. You’re sure to find what you’re looking for, even if you didn’t entirely know what that was until you arrived.
When: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm.
The Amstelveld flower & plant market
A dinky market with 27 stands bursting with flowers and other greenery. This Mondays-only market is also close to the Rembrandtplein.
When: Monday from 9am to 2.30pm.
Ten Katemarkt
A medium-sized food and clothing market of 130 stands. Also has a handy line in various fabrics.
