Recommended apartment in Berlin: the Kreuzberg II
The Kreuzberg II, in Berlin, is our favourite apartment of the week.
As November draws in, and the nights begin to get long, dark and cold, many of us are giving our daily grind a long, hard stare and thinking the same thing: winter break? And why not? Short breaks from the grey sameness that hits about this time of year, after all, are the extra dimension that sets us apart from bees in a hive.
Here at Friendly Rentals, one of our personal favourite destinations for a winter break is Berlin. We’re talking kaffee und küchen (coffee and cake) in the city’s cosy cafes, the beginning of the famed Christmas markets that conduct a warm kind of glow to Berlin’s squares and corners; even the city’s regular tourist sights illuminated in a different way. What is there not to love in winter about a city where dark blurs with light like no other?
To go with one of our favourite destinations, this week we’d like to present one of our favourite apartments in Berlin: the Kreuzberg II.
Ideal winter break accommodation
Things we love about this apartment in Berlin include (but are not limited to) its exposed beams, calm white walls, soft blond floor and trendy red kitchen. Yes, this apartment is a real city nest, tucked away on the 4th floor of a period Art Deco building. And that’s before we start on the shiny blue-tiled bathroom (which comes with a hairdryer and towels already provided, giving you extra space in your suitcase for essentials like all the trendy clothes you’re going to need to fit in with the über-cool city vibe).
You’ll find plenty of inspiration to fly the coop in your local neighbourhood, Kreuzberg. One of the best-known areas of Berlin, this teeming nest of culture mixes 19th century architecture and the beautiful, serene Viktoriapark with a youthful population, one of the city’s most powerful music scenes and the famed annual Carnival of Cultures. It’s also very well connected – you’re right next to the central Mitte district, and close to the city’s principal attractions.
The Kreuzberg II offers a fat, comfortable king size bed, as well as a substantial sofa-bed, making it a great option for a couple, small family or pair/small group of friends staying in Berlin. Its location in the same block as the Kreuzberg I also makes it a great choice for friends or colleagues travelling together who are looking for a bit more privacy than a shared apartment.
