From the 13th to the 17th of February, the attention of the art world will again be focused on Madrid as the International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCO Madrid, celebrates its 32nd edition. An edition marked by the difficulties facing the art sector due to the current economic situation and the efforts of the event organisers to reinvent the fair.

Difficulties aside, ARCO contuinues being the most important national art event, th epefect scene to share projects promote artists and discover new ttrends in the contemporary art world. More than 200 galleries from 30 countries will participate at this edition of ARCO Madrid which will focus on foreign collectors.

This year Turkey has been invited as special guest of ARCO 2013. The program Focus Turkey will unite a wide range of Turkish artists, bringing to the collectors and the public the contemporary art of this exciting market. With many of the works having a strong political focus, inspired by the Arab Spring and human rights for Turkey’s minority groups.

Turkey’s presence will go beyond the walls of the exhibition centre. Various galleries museums in Madrid will organise special exhibitions featuring the works of the more famous Turkish artists. For example, the Casa Encendida will feature the work of videoartist Ali Kazma and in el Matadero Madrid you will be able to see the collective work “Here Together Now”.

One of the standout features of this year’s ARCO 2103 will be the creation of the “Collect On Line” project, running from the 1st to 7th of February an interesting selection of works from the galleries participating in the event will be sold through the internet.

Everyday after the close of ARCO you will be able to participate in the AfterARCO project in various places in Madrid. These include Turkish videoart in the Cineteca, a special concert in the Red Bull Music Arena, artistic interventions in the Faro de Moncloa and projections in Callao Square.
