Bloggers view: Vicky Rodriguez

We keep on with our initiative of giving voice to highlighted travel bloggers and this time it’s the moment of the popular Spanish blogger, Vicky Rodriguez, whose blog contains some of the best pieces of advice and useful information on the world of travelling.

1) Biography

After years working in the travelling world from the “dark side”, for I was tour operator and tour conductor accompanying groups of travellers all around the world, moved by curiosity I decided to approach to the blog’s world. At the beginning of 2006 I started to write in Diario del viajero (Traveller’s diary) and from that moment on I am focusing on the relation between travelling and Internet.

After a while I started to work on my on blog “El Próximo viaje” (The next journey) where I use a personal and more intimate perspective centered on the side of travelling I am more interested in: that is, the inner changes that take place when we get into contact with new places.

Travelling… my passion is almost a need: to see, to move, to get to know, to take a look at other realities.

2) Barcelona Top 3. The three places that should not be missed

Santa María del Mar: historic heart of the Born Quarter. I was bewitched by its history after reading a novel that talked about how the life in Barcelona was at the time of its construction. Every time I pass by the church I can’t help imagining that small town, the sounds, its people, and the perfumes. Currently, when we visit the church we are astonished by its interior, and it reminds us all the effort carried out by those humble people who gave everything they had to see their church standing up.

Sagrada Familia: if you come for the first time to Barcelona, or even if you have never been here, it will stand in your top priorities. No wonder! The light coming through the stained glass window full with figures and different colours will bring you to a different world: that of creativity and perseverance. If you are able to stand the long queue, you will be rewarded with a marvellous sight of what a man’s talent is able to achieve. One advice: take firstly the lift to have the city at your feet, and gradually visit the rest inch by inch.

Boquería Market: a symphony of colours and tastes, of spices…coming into this market is like going deep into a universe of senses. During the year, all the best products from all around the world are passing by this market and later to the restaurants and to the neighbours. A collage of leaves and flakes, of flowers and fruit that always lets you with an eager feeling.

3) A hidden secret about Barcelona

Without any doubt, the Labyrinth Park of Horta. It is a magical place, not so far away from the noisy city, where you can still expect to find that rabbit that brings you to Wonderland.
