Barça v Bayern: A classic night of European Football
Whatever the result between Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League 2013 semi-final clash, the return leg in the Nou Camp on the 1st of May promises to be a passionate affair with both teams vying for a place in the Champions League Final in Wembley on the 25th of May.
Bayern Munich with this year’s Bundasliga title safely in the bag will be looking to heal the wounds from last year’s Champions League Final loss to Chelsea by making it into their second straight final. But first they have to make it past what many consider to be the best team in Europe and of all time, Barcelona. Bayern will feel they have an excellent chance of eliminating the Catalans who have some worrying problems in defence with key defenders Puyol, Mascherano and replacement full back Adriano all out injured. Bayern will look to exploit this weakness through star players Robben, Ribery and leading goal scorer Müller.
Barcelona have admittedly struggled in their quest for their fifth European title, losing the first leg of the final 16 match up against Milan before staging a remarkable comeback in the second match with an inspirational Messi leading the way. Against PSG, Barcelona limped over the line with an injured Messi providing the final push Barcelona needed to eliminate the Parisian team. Despite their current problems Barcelona have proved they are the team to beat in this edition of the Champions League. With a fully fit Messi combined with Xavi and Iniesta controlling the Barcelona midfield making it into the final won’t be an easy task for Bayern Munich.
