Fair of emerging art in Madrid, JUSTMAD2 2011
The 2nd edition of the contemporary art fair JustMad2 in Madrid which is dedicated exclusively to emerging artists will be running alongside the ARCOMadrid fair. This event, which will be taking place from the 17th to the 20th of February is a great opportunity for young artists to showcase their work and give more visibility to dynamic and innovative international galleries.
The aim of the event is to act as a platform for generating open debate between galleries, collectors, art experts and the public in general around contemporary art. Thus, this year 48 galleries from 12 countries will be participating in the fair such as the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Romania, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, China and France, 27 of which are Spanish and 22 from abroad.
There will be further activities running alongside the general programme of the art fair.
JUSTMAD DESIGN, with the aim of bringing the public closer to contemporary designers and encouraging collectors to invest in experimental, unique, or limited edition art works that add a sentimental element to common objects. Two pieces will be displayed in each of the 7 participating galleries in this section including designs from names such as Frerikson Stallard and Jaime Hayón.
METRO SOUND: a section specialising in sound art through which art works from artists that experiment with sound and music will be displayed in the Madrid metropolitan transport system. Each station has been specially selected in accordance with their location, architecture, and acoustics to form a combined node of subterranean sounds. In each node the integrated sound system will be converted into hearing channels, producing a collective aesthetic experience.
PRODUCER’S DESK: activity alongside the main event programme and which invites individuals and independent curatorial bodies from all over the world to disseminate work from international emerging artists. Thus, this section aims to provide a platform of communication for organisers and platforms that are key for generating regional and international networks and creating symbolic capital.
