Travelling to Granada with Kids

Key sights in Granada for families

If you’re heading to Granada as a family, here’s a handy list of children’s activities and places to visit.

Parque Natural de Sierra Nevada: one of the best options for families who want to enjoy the snow, as the Sierra Nevada ski resort is one of the most child friendly in the whole of Spain. It has a crèche and Dreamland, a space where kids can have endless adventures. But this wonderful mountain range isn’t just for winter; you’ll find plenty of great family walks to do in spring and summer.

Sierra Nevada

Parque García Lorca: One of the best places in Granada if you’re travelling with kids. It has one of the largest play areas with swings in the city. You’ll also find dance, theatre and poetry workshops for kids and in summer there are open-air film screenings. Every year in mid-July it puts on a children’s puppet festival that brings together companies from all over the world to put on free shows. Don’t miss it!

Cortijo Balzaín: a perfect option if you are into rural tourism. Only 10 minutes from Granada yet right in the Sierra Nevada, you can go on horse rides, take part in nature trails, go quad-biking, try your hand at archery, go climbing, play golf, play paintball, go paragliding… There’s something for all tastes and ages! The estate itself is great for kids, with its farmyard animals (sheep, hens, rabbits…), a salt-water swimming pool and an outside play area with swings.

Heladería Los Italianos: scrumptious ice creams at irresistible pieces. Children and parents will marvel at the magnificent range of handmade ice creams at this parlour on Gran Vía. Michelle Obama couldn’t resist it when she visited the city!

Museo del Centro Cultural Caja Granada: a wonderful way for kids to learn about the history of Andalusia through their senses. Packed with lots of interactive videos, workshops, life-size characters in period dress, film series and lots of objects to smell and touch. They’ll have a whale of a time while learning!

Parque de las Ciencias: the 70,000 m2 Parque de las Ciencias is the most popular museum in the whole of Andalusia. Only a few metres’ walk from the historic city centre, it has engaging interactive exhibitions on animals, the human body, the planet… There is also a tropical butterfly garden, an amazing games and experimentation room that kids love and a spectacular observation tower. They also run lots of workshops for families and schools.

Parque Ciencias Granada

La Alhambra: this breathtaking set of buildings is the city’s top attraction and is worth visiting with children as well. Take a stroll through its gardens with their thousand-year-old trees, beautiful flowers and teaming fishponds. There are also special guided tours of La Alhambra for schools and families. Bear in mind that tours are fairly long, so make sure you’re well prepared, especially in the hot summer months: proper footwear and plenty of water, food and sun cream. Remember to buy your ticket online to make sure you get in and save you and your kids the long queues.
