How to pack your kids bag for a holiday
Packing for a holiday takes time. Every parent understands the frustration of packing their own bags and then needing to start the process again and pack bags for each of their children.
In an ideal world it would be possible to let kids pack their own bag but any parent who has tried this experiment has probably come to regret it fairly soon after arrival at their destination.
Kids luggage can be a nightmare for parents as they often have very different ideas to you about which items are essential for a family holiday. If left to themselves they will fill their bags with clothes which are unsuitable for the climate or if you have younger children you may end up with a kids bag stuffed full of toys or games and with few clothes or other essentials anywhere in sight.
Here is our guide to making packing kids bags simple and straightforward.
Get Organised
Write lists of essential items to pack for each child and remember to cross each item off the list as you pack it in the case. It sounds obvious but with so many bags to pack it’s easy to forget something and even a single important item missing can be the cause of a meltdown at the airport or at your resort. It’s better to avoid the possibility of forgetting something and make the lists well in advance so you have time to add anything you might have forgotten. Using the same list for your return trip will ensure that you don’t leave anything behind when it is time to come home.
Beware of liquids
One group of items you may want to consider packing separately are liquids gels creams and anything else that might spill or break during transit. There are few things worse than opening your kids bag upon arrival and finding that all the clothes need washing because something has spilled all over them. Try either keeping one bag just for shampoos creams etc. or wrapping them in plastic bags so if they do happen to break on the journey they are not going to spill their contents over the rest of your luggage.
Keep an emergency travel bag
If your journey is likely to be a long one then why not consider a family carry-on bag? You could include a change of clothing for everyone and any prescriptions or essential items that will be needed on the journey. Keeping all of these items in the one bag will make them much easier to find quickly in an emergency. There will be no need to try and remember which kids bag you need to search through to find what you need. Everything will be in one place. This idea works particularly well if you have a stopover somewhere or if you will be arriving late at night and don’t want to open all the luggage before you put the kids to bed.
These simple tips will make packing your kids bag a much easier process. If you can keep track of everything you need for your trip then travel becomes much less stressful and your holiday a more enjoyable time.
