Jazzaldia 2014: Summer of Jazz in San Sebastian
Summer that time of year when there are more music festivals than you can shake a stick at. Rock, electronic, classical, two day, three day, week long you name it there is a festival for it. Now if you like Jazz (Niiiice!), San Sebastian’s Jazzaldia is taking place from the 23rd-27th of July and features a top line-up of national and international jazz artists. Who’s playing?
Since the music on offer is so diverse it is probably better to look at the different stages and who is playing there instead of trying to tell you all of the artists playing at Jazzaldia 2014.
Green Stage- If you are young or young at heart this is probably where you want to spend most of your time at the festival. Right on Zurriola Beach this stage attracts a massive number of people taking advantage of the free concerts. George Clinton, Delorean, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Horrors and Vintage Trouble will be performing here during the festival.
Plaza de la Trinidad- Described as the soul of the Jazzaldia festival. This stage sandwiched between the Santa Maria Basilica and the San Telmo Museum hosts the greatest names in jazz. This year is no different with Bobby McFerrin, Dave Holland, Kristin Asbjørnsen and Dee Dee Bridgewater taking to the stage to offer the audience an unforgettable experience.
Kursaal Auditorium- The acoustics of the auditorium make it the place for solo artists or small groups. This year jazz stalwart Chick Corea alongside Stanley Clarke will be performing The Songs of Return to Forever. Also appearing here during Jazzaldia is the Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Quartet.
There are many smaller stages scattered around San Sebastian offering more intimate concerts to jazz lovers. For tickets and more information on who is playing where and at what time visit the official Jazzaldia website.
See you in San Sebastian this summer for the groovy sounds of jazz (Grrrrrreat!).
