What to Do in L’Estartit, Costa Brava
L’Estartit is a small coastal village on the Costa Brava blessed with fine sandy beaches and coves surrounded with sheer cliffs and pine trees. It is the perfect destination for diving, with the small archipelago of the Medes Islands rich in fauna and flora less than a kilometer off the coast. In fact, it is considered to be the best natural reserve in the Western Mediterranean.
Beaches and Coves in L’Estartit
The main beach at L’Estartit made up fine white sand is over 5km long and the shallow water makes it the ideal beach for children. Beachside parking and numerous facilities are also on offer. If you prefer a little more peace and quiet spend the day at one of the many coves around L’Estartit: Pedrosa, Calella, Ferriol and Montgó.
Things to Do in L’Estartit
Diving is the number one activity in L’Estartit. In the village there are many dive centres offering introductory dive courses and day trips to explore the marine life around L’Estartit. If you don’t want to get wet but still want to see the marine life, trips aboard glass bottom boats are available, perfect for children. Another interesting option is to explore the zone by kayak.
Back on dry land we recommend exploring the Montgrí Range and Aigumolls de l’Emporda, a natural marsh land rich in birdlife.
The Castle of Montgri has been watching over the L’Estartit coastline for centuries and from the top there are exceptional views of the Costa Brava. At the foot of the castle, Torroella de Montgrí conserves many medieval buildings and parts of the defensive wall.
Follow the road for a few kilometers and you’ll come across the surprising Pubol Castle, home to Gala muse and wife of Salvador Dalí. It’s a must see for anyone who is at all interested in the works of this genius.

The nightlife in L’Estartit during summer is lively. Pubs and bars line the promenade, the perfect to relax and have a few drinks with friends. Rockefeller’s is one of the popular nightspots in L’Estartit.

Eating out in L’Estartit is easy. You’ll find everything from inexpensive family restaurants to fine dining. For good Mediterranean cuisine, Les Corones specialty is fish and seafood and Cal Tet for paella and black rice, for fideuá we recommend La Sal.
