Miami Guide: The Sights

MiamiWhen we think of Miami, we think of never ending beaches, the turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay and the multicultural environment. If we adding to this mix a vibrant nightlife, broad green expanses of parkland and a number of interesting places to visit we have the perfect place to visit. What are the main tourist attractions in Miami?

Luckily for you we have prepared a small Miami guide featuring the standout sights of the city.

Miami Ocean DriveOCEAN DRIVE-This legendary waterfront drive located in South Beach is one of Miami’s most enduring images, on one side lined with fabulous Art Deco hotels, bars, shops and restaurants lit up with neon lights on the other Biscayne Bay, golden beaches, and endless rows of coconut palms. It is the perfect place to see and be seen, if you are lucky you might just spot Shakira, Ricky Martin, Madonna or Donatella Versace.

Miami Art Deco DistrictART DECO DISTRICT- One of Miami’s must see, this peculiar suburb of South Beach is made up of hundreds of houses built between 1920 and 1940. Stretching for over a kilometre all the houses are based on the same geometric design and painted in soft pastel colours. To have a guided tour of the zone we recommend the Art Deco welcome centre. Venetian Pool, Coral Gables, MiamiVIZCAYA MUSEUM AND GARDENS - Located north of Coconut Grove. In 1914, Miami businessman James Deering decided to turn his dream of living in an Italian Renaissance Palace into reality. After retiring he had this three story palace built surrounded by luscious gardens it was his attempt to travel back in time. Today it is a museum, with highly decorated stately rooms full of antiques.  Where: 3251, South Miami Avenue

Calle 8, Little Havana, MiamiLITTLE HAVANA - After Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba in 1959, thousands of Cuban refugees settled in this Miami suburb, bringing with them a little bit of Cuba. Little Havana is a Latin suburb, lively and colourful with street stalls selling everything from food to handicrafts, there are also many Cuban restaurants and Cafés. During spring one of the largest street parties in the USA, the Eighth Street Festival, is celebrated.

Venetian Pool, Coral Gables, MiamiVENETIAN POOL- In the luxury suburb of Coral Gables you will find the impressive  Venetian Pool  pool complete with grottos, waterfalls and bridges. Built in 1923, out of the remains of the old quarry from which they extracted rock to build many of the suburb’s mansions. Where: 2701 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables.

These are just some of the attractions to whet your appetite, there is much more to see and do in Miami: the Aquarium, Holocaust Monument, Bayside Market, Little Haiti, Key Biscayne, Florida Historical Museum and numerous Shopping Centres and of course not forgetting, the spectacular beaches.
