Milano Film Festival 2010
Between the 10th and the 19th of September Milan will be holding the Milano Film Festival, a film competition where vanguard cinema, Italian and international films will be screened. The event will also be a perfect opportunity for up and coming directors to show their work to alternative films lovers. Furthermore, the festival will be divided into individual sections for full-length and short films, and competitions will be organised whereby voters may vote directly for the director of their favourite film.
The diverse sections that comprise the Milano Film Festival line up include a reflection on Jim Jarmusch cinema 30 years exactly following the beginning of his artistic career. Furthermore, this edition of the festival will be paying a tribute to Mir Cinematografica (Italian film production company) with a programme jam-packed full of films and events dedicated to the legendary Italian producer. In their attempt to reveal the harshness of reality that surrounds us, in many cases there is space dedicated within the programme to horror films in the section called state terror comprising films telling real life stories, and which reflect the complexity of the system of power and the associated politics.
For animated films fans, there is a space dedicated to emerging animation art. To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Milano Film Festival a section has also been dedicated to the author’s point of view. Included within this section will be 50 competing short films that reflect their creator’s personal points of view. With regards to the full-length film section, the line-up includes films from all over the world such as ´3 Backyards` by (USA), ´Armadillo` by Janus Metz (Dinamarca), ´Fleurs du mal` by David Dusa (Francia), ´On the other side of Life` (Alemania), and ´El vuelco del cangrejo` (Colombia), amongst others.
Furthermore, a section has been organised called ´Crossing the bridge. ` Work by Turkish authors will be screened in an attempt to reflect the two realities that characterise the Turkey of today, the country that wishes to become a member of the European Union and the more traditional Turkey.
Not just that, to accompany the alternative and vanguard film sessions that are being screened in the Festival, throughout the 10 days that the event will be held, the Live From Milano Film Festival will be filmed live from the Teatro Strehler and el Parco Sempione. This parallel music festival will be inviting different electronic and alternative music groups, originating from Italy as well outside, to the stage with the aim of combining these two arts together.
The Milano Film Festival has been set up in the Italian city of Milan as a launching and broadcasting platform for the most alternative and vanguard films. It is an original project, including for the public and the authors that will be invited to the stage to demonstrate their quality and potential.
