Poliorama Theatre
The Teatro Poliorama (Poliorama Theatre) located in Barcelona is kicking off the 2010 – 2011 season with a dancing performance from the Sevillian dancer-choreographer Maria Pagés. Maria will be performing on stage from the 31st of August until the 19th of September and is part of the Dansalona initiative aiming to promote passion for dancing in this exciting city.
This project is based on a study of the Sevillian dancer herself inspired by the process followed by painters when creating a self-portrait. Similarly, Maria Pagés will be demonstrating the human, beautiful, exciting and poetic side of her with a tragic and comical touch, in her stage performance at what is currently the height of her career. During the show echoes of the poems of Antonio Machacado, as well as Federico García Lorca, de Miguel Hernandez will appear, in addition to those of José Saramago who will be reciting some lines during the performance.
Self-portrait is a modern flamenco show and Maria Pagés will be accompanied by six musicians that will be playing live in a first rate and critically acclaimed flamenco performance.
Ever since Maria first performed in 2008 in the Tokyo International Forum, the show has been a great success such as in the XV Seville Biennial Flamenco Festival, as well as in New York, and has been awarded several prizes such as the Critics` Circle National Dance Award, el Giraldillo Prize for Best Dance Performance (2008), and the Best Show Award (2009).
Enjoy the opening of the Poliorama Theatre with the performance of this unrivalled self-portrait flamenco masterpiece in this great city.
