Guide to the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Although there are many other things to see and do in the region, the beaches of Puerto Vallarta are motive enough to catch the next plane to Mexico. The emerald green waters of the Pacific Ocean provide a beautiful backdrop to the more than 42 kilometres of beach.
These are just some of the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta:
Playa de los Muertos-Located to the south of the Malecón and the Cuale River, this beach is lined with restaurants, cafés, bars and shops. Despite its rather sinister name Dead Man’s Beach, it is lively and animated both during the day and night and is one of Puerto Vallarta’s most famous beaches.
Playa de Oro-To the north of the city, lies one of the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta, Golden Beach. It’s wide and relaxed sands provide the ideal spot for families, boating and other aquatic sports.
Playa Concha Chinas-A few minutes from the city centre, hidden between the jungle and the mountains, this beach with its crystalline waters and naturally formed rock pools is one of the star attractions of Puerto Vallarta.
Playa Destiladera-Strong waves help to shape this wide beach sandwiched between the cliffs of Punta de Burro. The beach provides perfect location for surfers and adrenalin junkies while the surrounding restaurants and bars offer an excellent view of Banderas Bay.
Playa de Mismaloya-This magnificent beach nestled at the foot of the mountains provided the backdrop to the film “Night of the Iguana” and is a refuge for seas turtles.
Playa Garza Blanca-Discreet and unassuming, this is one of those white sandy beaches that come to mind when you dream about lying on the beach watching the reflection of the sun dancing on the waters of the Pacific.
Playa de las Ánimas-The Golden sands of Playa de las Ánimas offer a great place to walk whilst the shallow tranquil waters provide the perfect place to snorkel and dive.
