Cheap family holidays to PortAventura
Covering an area of 120 hectares PortAventura is one of Europe’s best known and most popular theme parks. Six themed zones are home to some of the most intense rides on the continent with two of them Dragon Khan and Furios Baco hitting speeds well in excess of 100kp/h. There are plenty of family-friendly rides as well so don’t worry if fast and furious is not really your thing or if your children are a little too young for the biggest rides.
The main theme park has over 30 different rides whilst the SesamoAventura zone has 11 and entertainment designed especially for young children. The Aquatic Park has 18 water rides including those that are designed for the younger children in the Sesamo Beach attraction. There are always excellent shows taking place in each of the six zones ranging from amazing bubble shows to displays with colourful birds from exotic countries and seasonal shows for events like Halloween. There is so much to do at PortAventura that some people make it the focus of an entire holiday and many visitors find that one day is not long enough.
As you might expect PortAventura tickets are not particularly cheap especially for families. A family of two adults and two paying children will not receive much change from €170 for a single day’s visit. Tickets covering multiple days offer much better value for money than could be had by buying daily tickets for each visit – so for example a three day adult ticket costs €79 whereas buying a ticket each day for three days would cost €135 in total. It is also worth looking for the special promotions that are offered on the PortAventura website as these can introduce considerable savings and usually are not tied to visiting on a certain date. Websites like 365 Tickets and Attraction Tickets Direct offer cheap PortAventura tickets throughout the year and whilst the savings are not vast they are also worth considering.
Another good way to save money on a family holiday to PortAventura is to stay at a holiday rental apartment nearby rather than at the PortAventura complex hotels. Apartments in Barcelona and Sitges are both conveniently close for you to make the most of your PortAventura holiday. Not only will the apartment costs work out cheaper for families but you are likely to spend less money on food at the park (you are not allowed to take food into PortAventura so have a good breakfast before you set off and maybe bring something back with you to eat in the evening).
There is no free car parking at PortAventura so using public transport is the better option for keeping costs low. Barcelona is only about an hour away and there are several bus companies that will take you direct from the city to the theme park. There is also a train service from Barcelona that stops at PortAventura railway station (which is just a few metres away from the main entrance to the park). The journey time from Sitges is a little shorter and the best way to get to the theme park from here is by bus as there is no direct service by train from Sitges.
So it is possible to create a cheap family holiday to PortAventura it just takes a little homework and a bit of shopping around.
