The Costa Brava comprises a large variety of inner and coastal towns and regions with an interesting cultural and gastronomic inheritance fruit of the wealth of its land and seas. On this strip of Catalan coast you can always find all kinds of shops and markets where you can buy all types of articles and products from leather goods, and food to clothes and jewellery.
One of the most traditional shops on the Catalan coast is the Mar Franc store. It comprises a combination of shops that have been selling clothes and accessories from Platja d’aro, Puigcerdà and also Girona in their Girona shop, since 1943. You will find a selection of top brand clothes and accessories for men and women in these establishments. In addition, they have a large variety of products ranging from leather jackets, and suitcases to shoes, and shirts, etc. This is an ideal choice if you fancy buying quality, as well as top brands and products made in the area.
In the capital of the region of Girona, in the city with the same name this heritage is reflected in its many markets where you can find articles ranging from home made food products, and art, to flowers, and books, etc. This city has a long tradition of markets that they pride on being colourful, and a genuine indication of the feel of the region and the city. Have a stroll down the impressive streets of Girona and you will find that every Thursday, an ecological food product market takes place in Plaza Salvador Espriu, in front of Lleó market. It is jam-packed full of, and contains a large selection of vegetables, fruit, cheese, and many other products with the guarantee that there was no chemicals involved in the cultivation and harvesting of these food products, thus you can cook your favourite dishes with the best from the earth, and with food that tastes like it should taste, like was the case years back. On the first Saturday of the month you will also find the homemade food fair taking place on la Rambla de la Llibertat in Girona where you can buy tasty and typical food products from the region prepared with the most delicious ingredients for truly a culinary experience. In addition, you can make your way down to the Lleó market that is the distribution centre of the city’s fresh products and from where you can buy meat, fish, cheese, fruit, and vegetables….all from the region, of excellent quality and sold at reasonable prices.
Because the Costa Brava is not just seas and beaches, it is culture, architecture, gastronomy, and traditions that are reflected in their markets, shops, and restaurants.
