Sonar 2011 in Barcelona with The Human League, MIA, Steve Reich, Janelle Monae, and many more…
From the 16th to the 18th of June Barcelona will be hosting one of the most long-awaited festivals of the year, the Sonar or International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art that will be celebrating its 18th anniversary this year. Of course, there will be a top line up of artists and the cream of the cream on the international music scene.
This year the organisers have presented a line up featuring top American names, well established groups and promising artists, as well as further surprises that await festival-goers. Thus, the legendary electro-pop group The Human League will be present at Sonar 2011, as well as MIA, Steve Reich, the energetic soul pop funk of Janelle Monae, the Apex Twins with their techno sound and Underworld. Dubstep stars such as Magnetic Man, Katy B and Redlight & Ms Dinamite will also be performing.
Furthermore, this year the festival will also be crossing borders with music from the far east including Open Reel Ensemble and Daito Manabe from Japan, and Asgan Electro, Burak a Som Sistema, James Holden and Boys Noize from South Africa.
Sonar 2011 will also be taking place in A Coruña comprising its second edition in the Galician capital, and will continue to promote its collaboration with the GREC (Barcelona Festival), with a closing performance by Alva Noto and Ruychi Sakamoto. Meanwhile, the L`Auditori will host the opening performance with Steve Reich, BCN216 and Synergy Vocales.
This year, spectators from other cities will also be getting a taste of a small-scale version of this intense festival event, as SONAR will be making its way to London and Tokyo. SonarKids will be moved to the Sunday following the SONAR festival, where they will continue showcasing activities and events especially aimed at children with the most avant-garde aspirations in the city.
