Things to do this Christmas weekend in London
You only get bored in London if you want to because there’s so much going on, yes even during the Christmas weekend. The British capital is still keeping everyone entertained with a number of events including Christmas walks, outdoor activities, tours, the Christmas lights, ice skating rinks, and much more so you won’t feel at a loss during your visit to the city during the festive season.
Christmas lights
Why not take a stroll though the streets of London and admire the beautiful lights and decorations adorning the city. It doesn’t cost a penny and it’s a pleasant way of discovering the British capital whilst admiring it all dressed up in its festive finery, especially at night. The prime locations are South Molton Street and Brook Street, Regent Street, Convent Garden, Marylebone Street, and Carnaby Street with some pretty impressive Christmas lights gracing these main London highstreets until the beginning of January.
Ice-skating
The various ice-rinks dotted around London will be open everyday, some not on the 25th of December granted, however this is definitely a fun activity to pop on your agenda this weekend. One of our suggestions is the rink at Canada Park Square surrounded by the Canary Wharf’s world famous towers, and which sells festive food and drink to get you in the mood.
Further suggestions include the Ice Zone which has a funfair with dodgems and bungee trampolines, as well as circus fun and a rollercoaster, in addition to the Natural History Museum Ice Rink with its fairground carousel, and festive lights and beverages, and finally the Hampton Court Palace ice rink with its spectacular backdrop and which offers classes and ice guides.
London zoo
London zoo which is home to more than 600 animal species, has an ongoing programme of exhibitions and events exploring science and conservation, and offers educational and craft activities all year round making this a fun thing to do any time of year.
Recent additions to this family, some of which are endangered, include a re-vamped penguin habitat, a new aviary, a new Komodo dragon house, as well as an extended meerkat family.
It will be something entertaining to do over Christmas and all in the knowledge that your entry fee contributes to the Zoo’s conservation projects across the globe.
Selfridges winter sale
This is the big one! Selfridges is the epicentre of the best Boxing Day sales so prepare to fight your way through hundreds over excited shoppers after discounts of up to 50 percent in store, in addition to other fabulous Boxing Day bargains. Head for 3rd central and the Shoe Galleries, and make sure you get there early before all the best stuff disappears off the shelves. Happy days!
Christmas Day Charles Dickens’ London Walk
Our final suggestion comprises the Christmas Day Charles Dickens’ London Walk which as the name indicates takes place on Christmas Day. This tour takes you on a walk in the footsteps of author Charles Dickens, the greatest English novelist and social commentator of the Victorian period and gives you the opportunity to learn about the man who helped to invent Christmas as we know it by taking you to the haunts and famous landmarks of this great novelist.
