Here are our suggestions for your time in the British capital;
Christmas lights
The Christmas lights are a must see. London will be adorned, decorated, and dressed up all its finery for the coming season and we can’t think of anything better to do than wander the charming streets of London in the evening and admire the illuminated city in all its festive glory. This year, on the 16th of November TV personality Gaby Roslin will be flicking the switch on the Brook Street, Lancaster Court and South Molton Street Christmas lights and thus kicking off the 2010 Christmas season.
This illuminating event will be then be followed by a late night shopping evening, with store discounts and special offers at a range of local shops, bars and restaurants. Finally, a variety of shops will offering free food and drink during the switching on ceremony, and a night of festive entertainment will be taking place in support of the White Ribbon Alliance for safe motherhood, which is definitely worth a wander down.
We also suggest that you check out the Christmas lights on Carnaby street featuring some really unique decorations, Marylebone Street which promises to be really impressive, and the decorations on Bond Street, the lighting ceremonies taking place on the 17th and 18th of November respectively, and finally without a doubt the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree.
Reindeer Petting in Convent Garden
An event suitable for children and adults alike, the reindeer petting corner is a chance for animal lovers to see Santa’s reindeers while they’re taking some time out from their busy Christmas schedule. There will be reindeer petting sessions taking place in Convent Garden on the East Piazza from the 13th to the 29th of December and the little ones will get the opportunity to come face to face with these gentle animals famous for pulling Santa’s sleigh.
And that’s not all, because there will be a series of family friendly events being held in the run up to Christmas, including musical performances, and some fabulous Christmas decorations.
Kissing installation and real food market in Convent Garden
An interactive installation named “kiss” has been created which invites two people to activate a lighting sequence on Covent Garden’s 50ft Christmas Tree by kissing under the mistletoe. The moment is marked by 50,000 red and white LEDs and 100 strobe lights which illuminate the Piazza. Hmmmm festive… The launch night will be taking place on the 11th of November, and will feature a performance by Pineapple Dance Studios and a kiss auction with a celebrity TBA (from 6.30pm, auction 7pm). Other attractions include a real food market taking place every Thursday until the 23rd of December comprising a mouth watering array of fresh food and produce, gearing up for the big day!
With over 32 stalls bursting with food from some of the UK’s most respected producers, this fabulous market promises to be a none-stop-shop for all your dining and entertainment needs. Expect artisan products, free range chickens, festive treats and food, as well as a large array of seasonal food will be on offer for you festive foodies out there. So, enjoy!
